Komla (Basile) Koumi
Biography
Prior to joining the NMSU Mr. Koumi served at the American Diplomatic Mission in Togo as Financial Assistant at Peace Corps, and at the Embassy of the United States of America as Educational Advisor. He is the former Pre-Service Training (PST) Technical Coordinator for the Small Enterprise Development Program for the Peace Corps. Besides, Basile taught Financial Mathematics and championed the establishment of Junior Achievement Worldwide in Togo where he served as Executive Director.
As a member of the Youth Consultative Group (YCG ,2004-2007 ) for the UN Youth Employment Network (YEN), Basile contributed to develop strategies to help the government of Togo become an active member of YEN which spurred the youth employment program in the Country.
In 2014, he co-founded a consulting firm, "KMK Consulting Group", where he has served as a senior consultant. On this account, he has since led teams to conduct more than 300 feasibility studies and business plan with Track records in training, coaching, and developing business/project’s financial modeling for start-ups in collaboration with programs financed by the government, such as National Youth Economic Initiative Fund, and by multilateral and bilateral development partners. Recently, he has worked as the lead consultant with the German Cooperation (GIZ) in Togo on a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to support agricultural enterprise development, self-employment and professional insertion of graduates from Rural Agricultural Training Centers in Africa.
In the U.S., he taught the Entrepreneurial Finance Course at Salem State University (Fall 2011) and did consulting in business, finance, and with Youth Entrepreneurship Project management in Boston, focusing on African countries. In 2012, Basile facilitated the launch the Youth Enterprise Generator program in Mali that has been replicated in other West African countries.
Mr. Koumi is a Fulbright Fellow and a recipient of the Brandeis University Global Leadership Award. He earned his master’s degree in 2011, in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University International Business School in Boston after completing an Economics and Management Degree from University of Lomé in Togo (1999). He is from Togo (West Africa), and he speaks Fluent French and English.
